What I’m learning is it doesn’t matter any longer what celebrity you have, it’s what you do that matters. So I would say that for the rest of my life, everything I do has to be with a mode of ethics, good intentions, for a better result for the people closest to me and to the world around me. I’m learning that it doesn’t matter who you are, but that particular intention can help change one person, your family, your community, your schools, all of these things—and when you do put this out, great changes happen. It’s not overnight and you can’t expect quick results. It may not shift to our whole dream in this lifetime, maybe not even in the next lifetime, but if you stop believing that you can make a difference, then you’re not doing a service to our future.

  Partnership Tips


Do you find yourself doing everything – or trying to do everything? Should you? How do you select the best “Power Partners” to help you to GROW your business? That is the topic of this month’s Partnership Tips article.

 

How do you get everything done, done well, and done on time? Do you possess all the skills, abilities and technical capabilities to do everything needed? This is where careful selection of Power Partners™ comes into play.

 

Assess what you can do, with three prime considerations:

 

Ø      What are your strengths and interests?

Ø      What is the best use of your time?

Ø      What skills and knowledge do you have?

 

When assessing these three, be sure to consider whether it makes sense for you to do something – even if you can. Will doing the work yourself take you away from other and more effective activities? As an example, if you spend too much time on your computer, (everything from emails to data input) will it detract from your sales and marketing responsibilities? Which of these two is most important to the success of your business? Can you get someone else to keep your data up to date?

 

Now it is time to look for others to do the things you cannot do, or should not do. We refer to them as your Power Partners™. Usually, to start they will be working for you on a consulting or contracted basis. Many businesses provide such services, and you need to find the best ones. You would never think about doing your own legal work, would you? (Unless, of course, that’s your specialty) Then, why not find sources of skills and abilities to do the other things you should not be doing?

 

Our approach to finding help is to assess potential providers on the basis of their attitude, skills and knowledge: Our ASK Model in action.

 

Then:

 

1) Write your criteria in these areas (ASK) to create a thorough job description, Make sure your potential provider approaches work with an attitude that says: It can be done. It is important to do. It must be done with quality. It must be done on time. It must satisfy the client – you.

 

2) Next, find out if your potential provider has the skills to do the job. Skills are not just technical ability, they also include interpersonal skills. Get references. Talk to them. Ask them probing questions, not just about what went well, but also what went wrong and how the provider responded. Find out how well your potential provider works with others, and how they deal with the inevitable interpersonal problems that arise in any work setting. And, don’t forget to ask for proof of technical skills and certifications for those things you need done that require them. You need to have the full picture, because you must be able to turn them loose to do the best job for you they can, without having to constantly watch them..

 

3) Determining the level of knowledge of your potential provider can be a bit tricky. We think the best way to determine this is to find out what they know about your business, your industry, your competition, and your passion for your business. Knowledge is not just what you know – it is about what you know, about what you know. Consider those who are continuous learners, and who appreciate growing their knowledge.

 

Entrepreneurs are responsible for millions of jobs in the United States, but probably not until their businesses are thriving and growing. So focus on your strengths and passion, seek Power Partners to help you to GROW, and crawl before you walk, walk before you run, and run before you soar! Then, soar like an eagle!
