How to Get Out of a Slump
Volunteering not only brings joy to others – it can help you feel better about yourself.

There are many times on our journey through the hugeness of life that we feel lost, unloved, helpless and defeated. What do we do when we find ourselves in such an unhappy state? Some of us escape into the land of danger and defeat. We “get out of ourselves” by drinking too much, or taking drugs, or feeling sorry for ourselves, or complaining, or whatever else that stops us from doing what is truly necessary…and that is taking responsibility for our own experience of life. And we look out a the world with envy imagining that everyone else out there has been given a more fulfilling and enjoyable life that we have. Not good!
There are many healthier and happier alternatives. One of these alternatives, which is simple but HUGE in its force, is to “get out of ourselves” by getting involved in the lives of others who are less fortunate. What does that look like? We help feed and clothe the poor; we help build houses for those who have no homes; we visit the homes for the aged; we read to children in hospitals…and all manner of such beautiful things.

Partnership Tips
7 Tips to Convert Your Contacts to Cash
What is the return on your investment of time and money, for your networking efforts?
Continuously measure your results; continuously try to improve. To help you succeed:
1. Identify and focus on a target:
a) Niche yourself so you become know as an expert.
b) To determine your niche, assess your attitude, skills and knowledge.
c) If you had to choose one group of people you enjoy working with, who would it be?
d) What are the strengths you have?
e) What industry are you most experienced in and knowledgeable about?
f) What problems do they have you are really good at solving?
2. Identify the people or organizations that you are already doing business with your same target or are complimentary to your business.
3. Make a list of your top referral, or “Power Partners” – the people or organizations that can help you connect with the decision-makers you need to meet, or who can help you to solve a business challenge you have, so you can focus on what you like to do best.
4. Focus your marketing, sales and networking efforts and conduct “face-to-face” meetings with these strategic Power Partners.
5. Develop a “33 second power introduction” which conveys the benefits (not features) of what you offer, and to whom. Remember: WIFM (what is in it for me?) is the question you need to answer! Ask to explore a “win-win” partnership, and ways you both can mutually GROW together.
6. Use the practical and proven GROW Partnership Model as a basis for your discussion and exploration, (you can download a free chapter describing this tool by going to www.d2partners.com and enrolling for the free newsletter on the home page) Ask in-depth questions to learn about your partner’s goals, and the resources they have to offer.
7. Try to create an “all-win” partnership with every connection you make. Help them solve their business problems, and ask for the help you need. Ensure the risks and rewards are shared. The connection may help you attain more clients, referrals, and more business solutions. They can help you to GROW exponentially to increase your sales and profits.
In summary:
a) Identify and leverage your Power Partners
b) Do it effectively by following the ASK Model – attitude, skills, knowledge
Ø Attitude: Believe in and create “all-win” outcomes
Ø Skill: Ask in-depth questions and learn the GROW Partnership Model
Ø Knowledge: Learn as much as you can about your partners, what they do, their passions, what they are good at, what they need, what they can offer you, how you can win together.

Success Story
The Women’s Community website launch event on September 21, 2005 was a great success. We had a full room of women in business, others from as far away as California and London by teleconference and working on their computers to follow the interactive presentation, as well as the press – Chesapeake Business Ledger. The demonstration of the site was punctuated by lively conversation, questions, and suggestions. Refreshments were enjoyed by everyone both before and after the formal part of the evening, and several lingered well after to talk more about Women’s Community and how it can make a difference in women’s lives.
The press report and story will be out in the next issue.
Having just returned from the conference in New York City (we touched on this in our last newsletter) we are happy to report that both Dynamic Destiny Partnerships and Women’s Community made numerous contacts and are already doing follow up with many of those contacts.
In addition, Don Treinen’s facilitated workshop received very high evaluative marks, and the follow up White Paper has been prepared and submitted. The topic deals with the major roles and responsibilities of leaders in jointly run projects and programs.
In the words of one participant, “Don is pretty darn good!”

The invitation is the direct result of the work Don did with the Northeast Division of the Corps at a three day meeting in Baltimore, MD this past August.
