"Power of Partnershipstm Newsletter.
“It’s all about your Destiny!” Volume#2, Issue#12 December 2005
A newsletter brought to you by Dynamic Destiny Partnerships, LLC.
To Inspire You:
A Five Day Spiritual Workout – Day Two
Taking the time to breath. Dr. Bernie Seigel
Today’s exercise helps you counteract worry or fear.
Day 2: Inhale, Exhale
If you are interested in surviving and thriving, you must stop and take the time to breathe. Something as simple as breathing properly can make all the difference in your life; it can help you to feel invigorated and inspired. For this exercise, practice relaxed, deep breathing. Become aware of the movement of air in and out of your nostrils and the movement of your chest and abdomen. Become aware of your body’s need for oxygenation. By focusing on your body and the life-giving air you breathe into it, you will help to heal your life as a by-product.
When you are worried or disturbed, your breathing changes. You may become short of breath or hyperventilate; this can cause other symptoms and lead to physical problems because of the changes it creates in your body chemistry.
Make a point of noticing when you become worried or fearful, and in those moments, practice peaceful breathing. Become mindful of your breathing and the flow of air moving in and out of your nostrils, the movement of your chest, and inspire peace and light, and expire fear and darkness. Watch what changes occur when you do this, how the tensions throughout your body and mind are relieved. Let yourself be inspired through the deep relaxation that occurs. What inspires you will lead you to inspire. Life-enhancing activities enhance our ability to breathe in the life we are living.

Partnership Tips
Let’s have a frank discussion about a dirty word: Outsourcing.
Yes, Lou Dobbs has made a great name for himself talking about outsourcing over the last few years. He makes a good point, too. His concern, along with that of many, is the loss of good-paying jobs to low-wage foreign companies. Actually, his point is that American companies are ‘giving away’ work that could very well be done by our own citizens – and doing so for purely selfish, short-term economic reasons. (Whether you accept Mr. Dobbs’ point or not, read on….)
But, wait! Is this the entire story? What if you are a very small entrepreneurial operation and you have few, if any, employees? We think this part of the discussion needs a good airing.
Jane Doe is a one-person operation, providing business consulting to managers in several local companies. She is very good at what she does – business consulting. But sometimes she needs legal advice. What does she do? She hires someone to do her legal work. She needs to have her financial records up to snuff all the time. What does she do? She hires someone to do it for her. She needs help in developing and producing her marketing materials. Again, what does she do? She hires the help she needs. When Jane realized she needed to be online and have her own web presence, she knew nothing about it. So, what did she do? You guessed it. She hired a web design firm to get her up and running.
As you might have figured out by now, what Lou Dobbs is talking about and what we are talking about in this article are vastly different, but can certainly be called by the same name: Outsourcing.
So, why do we think it is not only okay to outsource as we have described it, but essential to the successful operation of a small business? Two reasons come to mind.
First, any one individual simply cannot be an expert in all the areas of skill and knowledge needed to run a business. If you don’t have the skills and you don’t hire them when you need them, you won’t be long in business! And, if you are a small entrepreneurial operation as described above, you can’t afford to hire a bunch of full-time employees just to do work that you need done occasionally.
Second, and this is one most of us don’t think about – every time you have a skill need you do not possess, you give someone else a job that pays when you contract with them to help you out. This is a significant point. Consider this: For women in business alone, annual gross revenues total over 2.5 trillion. This is serious stuff. 2.5 trillion goes a long way in driving the economy at large.
When Lou Dobbs and others talk about the impact of outsourcing, they are expressing a real and valid concern about impact on the economy. And interestingly, when we talk about outsourcing within the context examined above, we are talking about the very same thing!
The obvious conclusion is, of course, that the real issue is motivation and impact – not the word “outsourcing”.
If, on the one hand, the motivation is to reduce cost by getting rid of your employees, there is a significant price to pay in economic impact. On the other hand, if your motivation is to be successful and grow rather than to cut costs, the impact of outsourcing is still significant – but in a very different direction.
So, what does all this have to do with partnerships? We believe every contact you have in business should be considered a potential partnership opportunity. The attorney you use may also be an excellent source of referrals for what you do. The accountant probably has other clients who she knows need your services. The web design firm certainly works mostly with other businesses – the very partnership opportunities you will need to grow your own business. Never miss an opportunity to forge a new partnership! If you look only in traditional places, you are likely to find only traditional results.
Here is a provocative idea: Create breakthrough relationships and achieve breakthrough results!
We have many other provocative ideas about how business can do its business in a way that has positive and lasting economic impact – both at the micro and macro levels.
